The launch of two live streaming video apps has made it easier than ever to stream live video from your phone to your followers on Twitter and beyond.

Meerkat and Periscope (owned by Twitter) are apps that enable you to live stream video whilst at the same time scheduling and sharing your footage via Twitter. These apps are made for Twitter.

Because they are so new users are still testing out how to use them and what they might be good for.  I like the fact you can engage Twitter users in the streaming so it looks like they could be useful at events and for interviews. I haven’t tried them out yet but have been looking at how they are being used. Currently, Periscope seems to be awash with journalists claiming the app is the future of news!

These are exciting developments which make capturing real-time video and amplifying it across Twitter a reality. It is worth noting that there are other ways to live stream too such as using Ustream or Google Plus to live stream to your Youtube channel.

I’ve pulled together a list of resources to help understand what the apps do and how to use them. I hope you find them useful!
