This is a fascinating talk by Elizabeth Stokoe, professor of social interaction at Loughborough University, about conversation and how conversations can change direction as a result of using a different word. I guess that’s a statement of the obvious but conversation analysis of some types of conversations shows that they fall into patterns. Simply changing one word can change that pattern.
