I’m fascinated by the sciences that explore humankind, who we are, how we have developed and why we do what we do. Following on from my recent post on metaphor, I came across this short video by cognitive neuroscientist Michael Gazzaniga.
Gazzangia says we are hard wired to tell stories to explain our actions ie we do something and then we tell a story to explain what we have done – to make us feel ‘coherent and unified’. Our brains are always trying to seek out explanations for our actions.
Maybe this goes some way to explaining why stories are so important to humans.
