Humans are creatures of habit, which is both a good and bad thing. It’s great when we have good habits and tough when we have bad habits. Tough because habits are hard to change and we don’t like change, a point which is very well made in this video about Facebook and the regular features updates that it makes [H/T @benjaminellis].

In an interview I did with Stanford University’s BJ Fogg, he shared his tips on how to create new habits. The fours steps are:

  1. Find the smallest behaviour that matters
  2. Work out where to out this in your daily routine
  3. Train the sequence – ie keep at it on a regular basis
  4. Allow the full behaviour to emerge.
